Being nice is exhausting.
I should probably begin with: I’m a nice person. I go out of my way to be. I make jokes. I tease people. But I’m willing to help when they need it. I ask how their day is going. From the president to the janitor. I find people are a lot easier to work with that way.
Today, they’re upgrading our sales and inventory system and it’s not going so smoothly. Everyone is on edge because their ability to do their jobs is being impeded by these updates. Some yell. Some brood. Some quietly freak out. But no one is having a good day.
So, with the company’s permission (and credit card), I took time out of my day to get everyone’s orders from Buffalo Wild Wings, call in those orders, and go pick up those orders (while it’s snowing). Why? Because bad days suck. Bad Fridays suck even more. And being around people who are having a bad day sucks even more than that.
Being the cheerleader is an exhausting job, but it’s necessary.
Now, if you need me, I’m going to see if anyone wants hot cocoa.
